The Church Athletic League (CAL) is seeking an experienced Communications Officer. This individual will be an integral part of our League who will consistently deliver creative communications that represent the CAL brand. This individual will be a voting member of the CAL Board of Directors, either appointed by the Board or elected at a CAL General Meeting for a 2-year term.
The Communications Officer will work with the CAL Board of Directors and Hockey Committee to develop and execute compelling internal and external communications content for the League. The role requires the candidate to be a skilled writer and creative thinker.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Building and maintaining the CAL social community presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
Creating and delivering frequent content for email, social and digital channels.
Social monitoring, listening, and moderation activities for the CAL social communities on multiple platforms. Managing community engagement and growth efforts in consultation with the Board of Directors, Hockey Committee and other stakeholders.
Responding to industry trends in social and new media reporting and distribution, ensuring that the CAL platforms speak to members’ demands, while maintaining consistent branding voice and best practices.
Social Media – Understanding/experience in social media management across a variety of platforms.
Hockey Knowledge – General hockey knowledge in addition to familiarity with the CAL, its mission and its operations.
Writing and Speaking – Communicating effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate.
Judgement and Decision Making – Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one for the organization
Coordination and Time Management – Adjusting actions/schedule in relation to others’ actions to ensure deadlines are met. Ability to work irregular hours including nights and weekends during the hockey season to ensure deadlines are met.
Must be a hard-working, creative, outgoing, ambitious volunteer who can take the initiative and/or be directed
